    • When you say f#$k it and swap an LS into your E92 335i with a big top mount turbo dumping into the atmosphere

Think this guy got sick of misfires? A gentleman going by the name of LS Smrf ditched his N54 for a 5.3 liter GM LS (L33) V8. He then also ditched his hood and added a big top mount turbo without worrying about routing the exhaust and simply having it dump into the air where it is.

There is a TH400 trans swap and 8.8 inch rear end to help put the power down. Thus far this car runs 10.8 @ 130:

And it makes 514 whp at 12 psi:

He has a new turbo on it now looking to make big power in 2020.

It looks like a bit of a junkyard build but it works if the goal is cheap 10's in an E9X chassis with the potential for a ton more power provided the motor is built to take it.

We can respect the effort but this is no longer a BMW and more of a garage built project on a platform that is now incredibly cheap and essentially disposable. You will see more hacked up 335's like this and some will like it and some won't.

Is the engine too tall to fit in?

Get that 60ft in the 1.5s and hes low 10s with same power; add power and hes knocking on 9s

It's an LS swap so really the sky is the limit if you get the chassis to cooperate.

Interesting I guess but no longer a BMW or a street car.

Based on the size of that gigantic turbine housing, I’m guessing this turbo was meant for a diesel application. It is waaaay too big for a 5.3L that is only putting down 514 WHP and probably why it doesn’t spool until 5500 RPM. This build could go much quicker / faster with the right turbo.

EDIT: It sounds like he actually has a pretty high stall converter in it, so his 60’ issues are probably more about traction than spool. Regardless, a better matched turbo would let him run a tighter converter to get a little more power to the wheels. At his current power level, he could be running a smaller turbo that spools 1000+ RPM sooner.

I don't think it's all that scientific of a build...

I remember seeing someone else fit in an LS engine into a 328i 4 door and I don’t believe it sat that high. I’m not sure why it is sitting so high and tilted .

He had a VM/ACF 6466 top mount and basically ran the same times IIRC, then blew the motor. That's why he just went LS after.

Plenty of LS swap kits even for E30's that have it sit nicely.

Lol. It also strikes me as a fun build and the turbo was sized based on what was cheap or free.

I don't get the point of doing all this for fairly lackluster power figures *and* in a platform that's terrible for drag racing...I mean, it's probably fun, at least. I get that part...but aren't there enough $#@!box American cars out there to swap junkyard LSs and TH400s into? If you wanted that, why did you buy a 335?

There is no point. It's just junk someone threw to together to say 'look at me'

Cause it's America, his money, and he is a grown ass man..l don't like it but who am I to question? Its not my money. But I am a fan of engineering. Let's not act as if a 335 is a sacred car. Hell people are swapping Ferrari's with LS motors

I think it is bad ass.

I would happily own an Turbo LS swapped E9x as long as I could close the hood.

        It's a forum. It's what we do.

It is indeed his car and he can do whatever he wants. We can comment on it and you're right, the 335 is not sacred.

Other e9X LS builds have the motor sitting much lower and the hood closing even with a turbo. I still don't get why it sits so high and looks like it is tilted back?

Still looks bad ass Click here to enlarge

Probably allowed more room to route the manifold to the single turbo?

Who knows. It's whatever fit most likely.

I agree. Other LS swaps have the turbo sitting lower than my top mount N54 and the hood closes. That is all. Still looks sick Click here to enlarge
