    • Heavy Xdrive S63TU2 V8 vs. lighter RWD S55 I6 - BMW F92 M8 vs. F87 M2 Competition drag and roll races

Carwow pitches this race as David vs. Goliath. That is not exactly the case as the M2 Competition offers plenty of muscle. In the aftermarket to this point, the S55 3.0 I6 actually posts stronger power numbers than its twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 big brother.

Power to weight matters and the M2 Competition is carrying 700-800 less pounds depending on how it is specced. Really, this race should be billed as classic M (50/50 lightweight RWD with DCT/Manual drivetrain) vs. current M (heavy, all wheel drive, low end torque monster with automatic drivetrain) philosophy.

It is wet out so you already know how the drag race will go. The M8 wins, easily.

They do it again with the M8 in RWD to make it closer but who is going to race like this? It's pointless. You might as well see which one is faster on ice.

The roll race is more telling as the DCT gives the M2 a better start but the M8's top end takes over. Yes, the M8 has more power and pull.

Why not do something interesting and show how the M2 Competition fares after a tune again the M8? Why not show them on the track? All we learn is a stock M8 Competition is quicker and faster than an M2 Competition in a straight line when it's raining. Shocking!

Track comparison would be nice but beyond these guys' abilities. These are exhibitions more than tests.
