    • Dyno Spectrum DS1 tuning software officially available for Gen 1 Audi 4.0 TFSI V8's (EA824)

You knew this was coming. Dyno Spectrum posted impressive ethanol flex-fuel results for their DS1 software on a C7 S6 4.0 TSFI a few months back along with a demonstration of on the fly map switching. Well, the real thing is now available for purchase to the public (albeit in beta form).

So what can it do? Seemingly, everything. BoostAddict does not recall ever previously posting a factory ECU solution with this much capability. The control available thanks to the DS1 software on the Bosch MED17 is simply unparalleled.

      Full release with details below.

Beta Release of the Dyno Spectrum DS1

Today marks a very special day for us here at Dyno Spectrum Ltd as we are finally releasing the DS1 to the public after over 10,000 hours and 3 years of development and testing.

The DS1 is a revolutionary device that is unlike any other ECU flashing device on the market. It brings together the ability to not only flash great, built from scratch, off the shelf calibrations, but it has the ability to do so much more!

The DS1 is our unique bespoke design. It is completely wireless, so gone are the days of handheld devices and cables. It can connect to your phone, tablet or computer to do things like check diagnostic faults, clear diagnostic faults, change maps, set ethanol content levels and read current ethanol content level if using a content sensor.

Another big advantage is that it allows for Pro Tuners or even enthusiast tuners to take the car to whatever level they want. In beta testing with tuners, highly experienced tuners with 4.0T engines over 1000 HP running quarter miles in the 9s lauded the power of the DS1 to further their engine's potential by solving problems, using advanced datalogging at speeds never seen before and new control strategies. Never has stock ECU flashing been so powerful! Included in the DS1 is everything needed to datalog the car wirelessly and also tune the car using a laptop.

What really separates Dyno Spectrum Ltd from all other tuning companies is that we have developed a worldís first in that all tables in our tuning suite can all be adjusted live! No longer do you need to make changes and then reflash the car or be limited to just a handful of tables to change live. You can now tune in realtime and make changes to around 700 tables while the car is running and datalogging. This is truly revolutionary as it is all done wirelessly. If you do need to flash the calibration, it takes 30 seconds. Tuners can add their own table definitions, but during the beta with tuners they had more than enough to tune heavily modified cars in realtime saving them hours of dyno time.

If that wasnít enough, we added a slew of custom features to the DS1 that will allow your car to do a myriad of things it never did from the factory. Things like:

      Boost Gauge Parameter Switching
Map Switching with up to 9 slots
      Flex Fuel support
      Rolling Antilag
      Water/Meth control
      Launch Safety for the transmission
      Alternate Boost Control Strategy
      Drive MAC solenoid valve directly
Launch control for cars that didnít come with it from the factory
Extra engine and transmission cooling in stage calibrations
      Brake Boosting
Half engine mode/4 cyl mode disable

One of the great features is the ability to run true E85 flex fuel. No longer do you have to choose between gasoline and E85 reflash for one or the other, but it will automatically adjust based on the ethanol content sensor. Since it comes in over CAN bus, the ECU can read it and blend a mix of tables without the driver ever knowing. So pump fuel, race fuel or ethanol can all be done and set in the map switching as well. The flex fuel tables in all map slots also get tuned in realtime as well, so you donít need to turn the car off when calibrating it for different fuel. You can even see the ethanol content on the dash in the car.

As well as being an amazing tuning suite, the datalogging is unlike any other logger on the market. While most tuners are using either standard PIDís or UDS, the DS1 is using its own logging code that logs around 20 times the number of monitors at 20 times the speed. Yes, you read that correctly. We currently log 150 simultaneous monitors. A lot of the monitors are advanced monitors that cannot be logged by other tools such as individual wheel speeds, steering angle, g sensors as well as incredible detail on ECU control processes essential to getting the best results.

Off the shelf maps are in beta now. We want datalogs from beta users to check and if necessary correct differences between cars of various ages, environments/fuels and combinations of modifications, but we have already tested extensively.

Stage 1 is for stock engines, stage 2 is for intakes +- downpipes. These are setup on map switches for 91, 93, 100 and 104 octane. Flex fuel capability is included if you install a sensor (recommended), or temporarily set the ethanol concentration with your phone if you do not have a sensor yet.

S6/S7/A8 4.0T are setup to allow full boost on E85 flex fuel, so your ECU can automatically adjust for any ethanol blend. You can take your flex fuel vehicle on a road trip and you don't have to worry about the fuel you can find or flash at the gas station with bulky and slow devices. Just leave the tiny DS1 plugged into the OBD port and it will do it all for you. It will sleep when you leave the car to save power, but awaken when you open the door.

Running full E85 on larger than S6/S7 turbos (eg RS6/7 and S8) requires fuel system upgrades to run full boost. These are in alpha testing to standardise the low fuel pressure system hardware. Presently, we recommend expert tuning and datalogging using our examples as a base. They currently include settings for Autotech 11.5mm high pressure fuel pump plungers and opening the 1.5mm restriction at the high pressure intake to 4.5mm or changing the lines to remove it. These changes are easily done and can be combined with fitting a flex fuel sensor.

We are so excited to release this new product. Its features and quality have been our obsession and it is our very best work. We cannot wait to see what you do with it, as it is an entire ecosystem that we hope will transform 4.0T tuning forever, and give this awesome engine some serious love.

      We support all worldwide versions of C7 and D4 4.0T (from 2011-2018) so that includes S6, S7, A8 4.0T, S8, RS6 and RS7.

You can buy the DS1 from www.dynospectrum.com now. If you have questions on the DS1 please email info@dynospectrum.com and we can help to answer any questions you may have.

This seriously makes me want to pick up a used S6 just to build my own RS6 sedan. They have dual clutch upgrades plus plenty of turbo upgrades on the platform. Combine that with this software and the sky is the limit.

Dude, get an S8. you get a bullet proof transmission, all the luxury in the world, and you already have better turbos than the factory S6. Minor weight penalty, but fix that with a turbo upgrade from SRM, or meth.

Very very cool tech. I had no idea the S6 had gotten so cheap. I saw a few $25k examples in a local search. This platform should take off quickly.

There are plenty of options. I think the A8 makes more sense if going to change the turbos. Trans is the same.

The S6 makes the most sense IMO as it is a great value, the lightest, plus the dual clutch transmission. Upgrade the turbos and the sky is the limit.

Swap in the stronger s8 or rs7 engine Internals into a s6, then you’d have a stronger engine and dual clutch.

The rods are all the same what I read. The S6/S7 are just higher compression at 10.0:1. Not sure if the RS6/RS7 pistons are stronger but they are 9.3:1.

        All the cranks are forged.
