    • Tesla Model S meets its match? Introducing the 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S

It is somewhat goofy to have the Turbo name associated with turbocharging an internal combustion engine utilized on the all-electric Taycan. Porsche likely figures the word is easiest for consumers to understand the Porsche model hierarchy but that essentially admits consumers are not able to grasp a simple concept.

Porsche focus groups likely made that case. Regardless, here are the 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S models.

The design is sleek. The new sedan looks much better than the Panamera and definitely has a futuristic vibe to it. Porsche did a good job capturing the concept design for the production car.

There is a two-speed transmission that shifts at 62 mph. It is not a coincidence it shifts right after 60 as the goal is to have an incredible 0-60 time. The Turbo S is said to hit 60 in 2.6 seconds on the way to a 162 mile per hour top speed.

Both the Turbo and Turbo S make 616 horsepower. Overboost (again, odd naming choice reminiscent of internal combustion models) pushes the Turbo to 670 horsepower and the Turbo S to 750 horsepower.

Porsche states the Turbo can do the 1/4 mile in 11.1 seconds and the Turbo S in 10.8 seconds. That means the Model S P100D will likely only be challenged by a Turbo S in overboost mode.

Range is 280 miles with an 800-volt charging system. That means a charge time from an almost drained battery to 80% should take around 22-23 minutes.

So the styling is nice, it has a sportier size and profile than a Panamera, and offers plenty of power with quick charging. What are the downsides? The 5120 pound curb weight. It is very heavy.

The Taycan is also expensive. $153,000 for the Turbo and $187,610 for the Turbo S. The Tesla Model S definitely has the value advantage but that was to be expected.

Does Porsche have a Tesla killer on its hands? We will find out soon.

My Gateway 2000 4DX-33 had a turbo button, so this is probably ok too.

The p100D is pretty comfortably in the 10s... I thought 10.7 magazine times and faster in user hands.

The Taycan Turbo S price with even low options will easily exceed $200K and for that price IMO the $200K Tesla roadster looks much better and will have much better performance and range. The Taycan biggest disappointment has to be the 5,120 weight.

Who is cross shopping a 4 day family sedan and 2 seater?

As much as I disklike Tesla but the Taycan is a disappointment. Promise 300m range and charge in 15min, none was delivered. Who gives a fsck Abt one could repeatedly run 0-60 in a sedan?

The reason it's heavy because it has a transmission w 2 gears.

It does have some cool feature likes calculating your battery level and advises where the nearest charging station but that might be avail in all EV already.

The new roadster will have a 2+2 configuration so it technically will have 4 seats.
if you get the premium model that has the cold gas thrusters you wonít have those seats because you will need space for the compressed air tank, etc.

Donít expect the roadster to weigh that much less than 5000lbs, they are advertising 600+ mile range so it will have a heavy battery,

Having rear seats and an actual rear seat that can be used are two very different things. The taycan looks great but I'd bet half of the drivers fall into the soccer mom category.

Doesn't this assume TSLA doesn't go bankrupt before the roadster is actually delivered?

        I agree it looks great

I hear you, the new roadster rear seats have been compared to those in the 911 so, yes I agree, more or less useless, emergency only seats

what does soccer mom category mean? Daily driver category?

I meant once and then needs a recharge. Also ludicrous mode does permanent damage to the motor and battery.

It's not hard to believe but where did you get the permanent damage info to the Tesla when it's in ludicrous mode ?
