    Would love to know what application that was for, the joints weigh more than that.
    There was one at one of the local speed shops/drag car builders that had broken and I was talking to one of the guys at the shop and that's what he told me about weight and pricing. Admittedly, all the ones I've seen have been ~$1,700 or cheaper(and heavier, but not by much) so I was just throwing that out there.

    Question is, will it be one piece or still retain the carrier bearing? IMO the 'give' the carrier bearing has and the two-piece design can induce wheel hop, no?

    I wonder how easy/difficult it would be to get warranty replacements on a supposedly defective CF driveshaft. I mean, you'd have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that there is no wheel hop, that you did not launch your car on slicks and that the damage occurred during normal driving instead of drag racing...

    I am not saying this is not a good product. Not at all. I just think that this would be a VERY niche market.

    Keep in mind DSS is quality. Also they already carry axles which they've sold a number of. They already have the tooling required to make them and only need measurements and they end up with another made to order performance product which they already have a customer for, myself, and I'm sure there will also be others.

    CF or Aluminum any pushing enough power to worry about a shaft breaking should be running a hoop to make sure there's no accidents. Along the same lines how much power will the flywheel take might be a good time to look at a scatter shield also.

    Easiest would be to good it. A steel barrier around the front of the trans/engine where the flywheel is. Usually needed on high RPM and sometimes high torque applications in case the flywheel breaks or flywheel bolts sheer. Mandatory in some racing classes as people can easily lose a foot. I've seen pictures of lucky people that had the back portions of their engine cut off as the flywheel went through the engine and hood from 8K RPM's. Again as over engineered as things are on this engine might not be an area of concern but if somebody is worried about safety a few hundred bucks on safetly is better than learning the hard way and losing part of a limb.

    The stock flywheel on my 07 335i exploded in this way. Bits flew through the bellhousing, luckily they hit the ground instead of getting into the cabin. The scariest part was that I wasn't even on it. The thing fatigued, the rubber barrier failed, and it disintegrated.

    So are you going for a scatter shield now?

    I mean if this can fail even at small load or even in stock form I don't see why OEM's would not protect us.

    Was wondering whether or not to buy a new FW or resurface my 120k km old one. I think I'll buy new now.

    My 07 was FBO at the time, hard driving caused the rubber to start weakening, it sheared, exploded. Bits flying through the bell-housing FTW.
