Somebody else will buy the rights to make twinkies.
But these union people have to be idiots. So they strike, cripple the company, and now what? All out of work? What a successful strike...

I'd do the exact same thing:
Way to go BCTGM union, way to go.“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” said Gregory F. Rayburn, chief executive officer. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.”

Not to say that I'm disagreeing with you on this because I myself don't care for unions. But I believe there has to be more to it than just simply faulting of the "peon" workers for refusing to work. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I live on the Eastern Coast, Long Island to be more exact. Now in the last 10 years I have been noticing as most of you have that the entire cost of living has been on the rise. Food costs more than it did 10 years ago, gas costs more, taxes are higher. The cost of cars keeps going up every single year as well we all know this. Now the one thing that hasn't really been keeping up with the trend is wages.
My friend had a job working for Cablevision and making 20 dollars an hour back in 2000. He was going to school part time and people were asking him why are you going to school with a job that pays that much!!?? Eventually he moved on.
I landed the same job in 2008, I was making 20 dollars an hour after I went up a pay grade and got a 5 cent wage increase on top of that, calculated by my "work ethic." So that tells me that the salaries are actually completely stale and not keeping up with the times, which I'm sure corporations have no problems with at all.
Now during this period of "recovery" after the recession we went through, profits are again slowly going up, but wages still are not. You can't lay the blame completely at the feet of the guy who is in the $#@! actually making the product. How about the CEO or the Board who are making bad investments and bad moves all over the place. We all know they are the last to lose a job, and usually they still make a profit at the end. Allowing the corporations free reign will end up giving us more headaches than we all care for.
Like Enron, BP, and AIG etc...

Thats a good list, took what, 60+ years to build all those? but they didnt do it anyway, Gov. did it..
Oh, BTW, the past 48hrs hasnt been so good to some other people..
Energizer -The St. Louis-based company said Thursday that it expects to shed about 1,500 employees. When finished, the restructuring should lead to $200 million in pretax yearly savings, Energizer said. It aims to have most of its restructuring steps finished by the end of September 2014.• Exide Technologies -Exide Technologies announced Thursday that it will be idling its lead-recycling operations in Laureldale and laying off 150 workers, effective no later than March 31.• Westinghouse -Westinghouse Anniston, the contractor responsible for shutting down Anniston’s chemical weapons incinerator, has reduced its workforce by another 50 employees.• Research in Motion Limited -Research in Motion Ltd., the maker of BlackBerry smartphones, laid off about 200 people at its U.S. headquarters in Irving on Wednesday, according to a source close to the company who did not want to be named.• Lightyear Network Solutions -More than one dozen employees at a Pikeville company lost their jobs this week. Officials with Lightyear Network Solutions said they are consolidating offices in Louisville and Pikeville to save money.• Providence Journal -The Providence Journal Co. laid off 23 full-time workers Wednesday as part of a cost-cutting effort, including 16 members of the Providence Newspaper Guild and 7 non-union employees.• Hawker Beechcraft -The company says 240 employees will lose their jobs with the closing of Hawker Beechcraft Services facilities in Little Rock, Ark.; Mesa, Ariz.; and San Antonio, Texas.• Boeing (30% of their management staff) -Boeing Co. said Wednesday it plans to employ 30% fewer executives at its Boeing Defense, Space & Security unit by the end of 2012 compared to 2010 levels.• CVPH Medical Center -CVPH Medical Center has handed pink slips to 17 employees. The layoffs — nine in management and eight hourly staffers — are part of an effort to “help bolster the hospital’s financial position in 2013 and beyond,” a press release said.• US Cellular -The move will result in 980 job cuts at U.S. Cellular, with 640 in the Chicago area, according to a spokeswoman. The cuts are slightly under 12 percent of the approximately 8,400 total employees U.S. Cellular had at the end of the third quarter.• Momentive Performance Materials -About 150 workers at Sistersville’s Momentive Performance Materials plant will be temporarily laid off later this month, officials said this week.• Rocketdyne -About 100 employees at Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, most of whom work in the San Fernando Valley, were laid off Wednesday in response to dwindling government spending on space exploration, the company said. The layoffs were effective immediately, and 75 percent of them came at the facilities on Canoga and De Soto avenues, which employ about 1,100 people. The company has six sites across the Valley.• Brake Parts -The leader of an automotive parts plant in Lincoln County has told state officials that there are plans to lay off 75 workers starting in late December…The layoffs are expected to start Dec. 28 and continue in the first quarter of 2013• Vestas Wind Systems -Vestas Wind Systems A/S (VWS) is seeking to sell a stake of as much as 20 percent and said it’s reducing headcount by 3,000 to raise the staff cuts by the biggest wind turbine maker to almost a third over two years.• Husqvarna -Husqvarna AB (HUSQB), the world’s biggest maker of powered garden tools, plans to cut about 600 jobs in a move that will save 220 million kronor ($33 million) a year by 2014.• Center for Hospice New York -The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care plans to temporarily lay off as many as 40 employees next year as it embarks on a major renovation of the inpatient unit at its Cheektowaga campus.• Bristol-Meyers -Bristol-Myers Squibb is following up its lackluster third-quarter results with almost 480 layoffs. 11-18-2012, 03:32 PM #21The "peon workers" did as they were told by the union. You want higher pay? you want more days off? more Viagra per month in your contract? then walk out and after we cripple the company they will cave in to our demands. The workers pay their dues to the union and then do as the union tells them, if the workers knew they would soon be unemployed they would have stayed at work. I would assume the demand for people to pour high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oil into giant vats is pretty bleak. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
For the most part these are unskilled laborers making a damn good wage for what they do, I am also on the East coast and I know many union employees, I have yet to meet one who has a clue about what it takes to run a successful business but they could recite what their pay grade is and how long to the next MANDATORY raise regardless of performance.
A job installing cable is also on the very low end of skilled labor and 20 bucks an hour is a good wage for a job that takes very little training. I am not knocking the trade but it is not the companies responsibility to raise the pay for a job that isn't that hard to do.
Owning my own business for years and having as many as 90 employees at the height has me a bit jaded about unions demanding more pay when the market cannot bear it, I had a service manager demand more pay not only for him but every technician and the service writer or he was going to leave and open his own shop ( he was making about 80k a year at the time)
I was scared, it was the end of March and I carried a couple too many guys through the winter but I wanted to be prepared for the upcoming season. Having no service department come spring in a motorcycle dealership is not good, anywho I let them walk 13 of 15 left. It was the roughest year I ever had but I replaced everyone and had one of my most profitable years. The guy did open up his own shop made it about a year and went out of business, lost his house his car and told me it was the dumbest thing he ever did. He got greedy and wanted it all in the end he lost it all.
Enron and AIG are completely different scenarios, when you pay for stock values and not performance bad things happen and BP is still making cash hand over fist.

I wasn't installing cable but that's not the point anyways. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
But when profits go up why can't the wages? The cost of living gets higher every single year hows one person supposed to keep up with that? I mean you can't expect somebody to work for the same wage for 20 years do you?
And me mentioning the other companies is what happens when you give them free reign and let them do whatever they want. In the end, the only thing that matters is profits and, "$#@! everything else" is their motto.

BP has a hefty fine coming but they just reported a 5.2 billion 3rd quarter profit,
that fine will barely be a hiccup in the grand scheme of things.
