No doubt there are going to be some BMW purists who freak out when they see this. They will avert their eyes and start shouting "blasphemy" as they see the supra turbo motor in the E39 M5. Well, if you happen to see one of these "purists" acting in such a matter, please smack some sense into them. E-shift performance has done several of these swaps in to the E39 and E36 and we must say it makes a lot of sense. The BMW S62 simply has not seen the aftermarket development the 2JZ-GTE has and to get big power out of it who knows how much money it would take. This swap makes a lot of sense especially financially and the motor does not look out of place in the E39 M5 engine bay. We will be posting updates on the progress as soon we get them from 930chas. In the mean time, check out some of the work E-shift has done below. ...

OE Tuning has a canned flash available for $400 for the N52. This motor does not get much attention or love so it is nice to see an affordable tune offering great gains available. This is simply an off the shelf tune, not a custom dyno tune. A custom dyno tune is also available of course but for a much higher cost. The car is completely stock other than the tune and the gains are on 91 octane. The speed limiter is also removed. ...

Take this as a warning BMW enthusiasts. Discovery Automotive was able to create a good reputation for themselves on M5board where they profited from exposure in cleaning up RMS mistakes. Shadowman, Bill of Discovery Automotive, was able to force his way into the lucrative high-end BMW tuning scene through the easiest route available, which is taking advantage of M5 owners. To be honest, we fell for this as well seeing Discovery Automotive take great care in posting their builds to give the appearance of a high end shop only for horror stories to start to surface. ...

What you see here is a modified BMW M70 V12. That V12 was developed in 1988 and put out 295 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. To take on the best Mercedes was able to throw at them, 6 months after the M70 was on the market BMW decided to blow them away and developed a V16. The V16 was a full foot longer than the V12 coming in with a weight penalty of about 130 pounds. It offered gains of 100 hp on top of the V12 as well as upping the torque to 461 lb-ft. ...

This tune makes another 10 whp torque and 38 whp compared to the previous tune. It would seem the X6 and X5 M tuning is evolving with considerable steps forward taken even on 91 octane. The dyno is a dyno dynamics and all the gains are shown at all 4 wheels. Graph is at the end of the video. ...

Well this car certainly is very... green. As you can tell, the car has a widebody kit on it and new front and rear bumpers. These pieces retail for $8,420. The pieces themselves don't look bad but to drive around with the scissor doors and bright lime green paint you must be doing something associated with the last 3 numbers in the price of the kit. A tune and exhaust are also available for $1,800 and $2,200 respectively which when combined push the output to... a boring 379 hp. The 600 name it would seem is just a reference to 6 series. Contact CLP Automotive if interested. ...

This video shows some of the tools BMW uses in manufacturing as well as their dedication to safety. We all complain cars are getting heavier but there is no doubt BMW is making an effort to use lightweight materials. They are no willing to sacrifice safety for weight, they believe they can achieve both a safe and lightweight car. After seeing this video, no reason to doubt their efforts. ...

If you are interested in what progressed BMW styling this is well worth your time. Like him or hate him, there is no denying Chris Bangle had a huge impact on the automotive industry. He also is responsible for pushing BMW design into the future. His designs angered many purists and to be honest, were too much (especially his take on the rear). He pushed the designs too far but there is no denying BMW needed a push and to break free of what had become too refined and too similar. This is an interesting look inside the mind of Bangle. ...

We all have heard the reports all about that BMW has been planning an X4 for some time. AutoWeek is reporting that the X4 is coming in 2014 which we already knew but the part that caught our eye is the talk about an M version. Based on the X3 but taking styling cues from the X6, this will be the best performance SUV BMW makes. The X3 is right around 4000 pounds, the X4 M likely sharing that weight. Mated to a DCT and with a version of the motor the M3 will likely get, it will be the best handling SUV in the BMW lineup as well as the hottest AWD performance BMW one can get. ...

We just thought this was pretty cool. We often take for granted just how awesome the E30 M3 is along with the S14 itself. Kind of cool that in a commercial that is geared toward enthusiasts the Universal Technical Institute choose to showcase the S14 in 2.5 liter tuned Evo III trim. Clearly, someone did their homework. We think they are entirely correct in that many people dream of working on these cars let alone owning them. Just shows what some of us take for granted and that the E30 M3 truly is an icon. ...

The law firm of Kershaw, Cutter, and Ratinoff has filed a class action suit against BMW on behalf of owners affected by these issues. We have all heard of the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) issues with many of our own users having had their pumps fail. Some have expressed concern that if the pump happened to fail at a bad time it would put them or others in harm's way. BMW has offered to replace pumps extending the warranty on them up to 10 years but they have not been able to fix the issue. It seems this firm is looking to press the issue and of course will be seeking a lucrative settlement. We will keep you updated as this develops, here are the details of the suit: ...

Not really sure if it is fair to call this a BMW, more like something resembling a BMW. This once was a E46 M3 but now it is a Mazda 4 rotor powered turbo drag car with tube chassis. The gold plating actually looks nice but you build something like this for kicking ass down the drag strip not to look pretty. The "previous" version of this car has run 7.2@196 supposedly. Still, we do not really see how you can call this a BMW. Still, the workmanship is incredible and to be respected. We look forward to seeing what it can do down the strip where it belongs, instead of touring car shows as it is currently scheduled to do. ...

We have received some inside information that Mercedes will indeed give the C-class the new 5.5 liter twin turbo V8 for the next generation AMG model. With the M3 getting an N55 variant it almost surely will be significantly overmatched by a C that will put up at least 500 horsepower depending on how MB limits the boost. By BMW limiting themselves to a 6 cylinder and saving the V8 TT's for the larger cars, they have allowed Mercedes a significant advantage as MB does not seem as concerned in holding back the C class as BMW is with holding back the 3 series from stepping on big brother's toes. ...

Now before the N54 fans get in a tizzy, the letdown here isn't the N54. It is that BMW is just taking the same motor they already have and just giving it some slightly different programming and calling it an M. The N54 was not an M caliber motor when placed in the 335 but now it is all of a sudden? BMW produced the N54 before the S65 yet they never would have felt a higher boost version was M worthy. How times have changed at BMW M. ...

You have seen the DCT taken apart, what it looks like inside, worn clutch discs, and brand new higher capacity clutch discs made. The new discs handle 600+ and 700+ whp respectively. With my power goals, SSP has decided to build a clutch pack that is beyond anything developed at this time for the DCT. What is the power goal? Well, it is beyond what is currently available and SSP is currently developing a clutch disc pack capable of over 800 wheel horsepower. ...

Well, this is indeed great news if true. We were expecting some type of announcement in Paris but it seems this leak would confirm initial reports of the car being approved for production. The car will initially launch with a traditional motor and the diesel hybrid setup will come later. That makes us happy, as the hybrid efficiency aspect is being used to push the BMW supercar through that we have been waiting for. If this is to rival the R8, which no doubt it will, the 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 will have to find its way in. Additionally, expect the production styling to be toned down and for the name to be ditched. How does M1 sound? ...
