Car and Driver is reporting that their source in Germany has learned that Audi has registered the SQ5 and RSQ5 names with the copyright authorities in Germany. This does not necessarily mean that these models are coming but definitely is a good sign. In the entry level SUV segment there is no German performance model. The M and AMG models are for the larger ML and X5/X6 models, not the X3 which is slotted against the Q5. We like that Audi is considering a performance variant of their smallest and lightest SUV. We will keep you updated on what happens but we say, bring the SQ5 and RSQ5 on! ...Published on 01-11-2011 06:21 PM
Well, it would seem BMW is phasing out yet another naturally aspirated powerplant in one of their models. Not much of a surprise to us, we know bimmer boost is the future. There are very few details on the new poweplant other than it will be the new base motor and should likely be the replacement for the N52 across the board in the future. Rumors are around 200 horsepower but we will know more when the engine is officially unveiled. It would also not surprise us if this motor was in Mini models as well. ...Published on 01-11-2011 04:50 PM

AMG Boss Ola Kallenius stated in an interview he plans to expand the AMG model lineup. With added pressure from BMW with the 1M Coupe and with the Audi RS3 he stated that AMG models of the A and B class will not be ruled out. Additionally, the success of the SLS AMG means that Mercedes does not necessarily need to focus the larger production volume models to create AMG variants. There have been some rumors of a baby SLS to compete with the 911. Either way, we can expect AMG to roll out more models and turn up the heat which is exactly what we like to hear. ...Published on 01-10-2011 11:56 PM
The Mercedes SLS E-cell has been officially approved for production as revealed at the North American International Auto Show. Mercedes announced the production to coincide with what they are touting as 125 years of technological innovation. The E-cell is expected to be able to do over 100 miles on a single charge. Yes, it is much heavier than he standard SLS and not as fast but electrics are new to the performance auto world. No word on the price yet but you can bet it won't be cheap. ...Published on 01-09-2011 11:38 AM
Let me start off by saying that the Turbo S is one hell of a fast car. The 911 Turbo S runs 0-60 in 2.6 seconds and completes the 1/4 mile in 10.7 @ 129mph right off the showroom floor!
On our first run I was able keep the lead and on the second run he held the lead. It was a matter of who hit the throttle first, so on just supercharger we are a pretty even match from a roll. The video below is our last run and I used a small 50hp shot of nitrous to make sure the BMW got the win. : ...Published on 01-08-2011 07:42 AM
As BMW continues to take focus away from performance and power shifting it to MPG and efficiency, it should surprise no one that BMW is looking into even more frugal/smaller diesels. Auto Express is reporting that the next gen 3 series may feature a 1.5 liter 3 cylinder turbo diesel pushing 150 hp. This would undercut the smallest diesel now offered, the 2.0 liter 320d, by a half liter while offering similar performance and cleaner emissions. At this rate, soon BMW's will be running on single cylinder motors powered by our tears. ...Published on 01-08-2011 03:02 AM
Gintani is offering an introductory special for their naturally aspirated stroker motor for the S65. This offer is open only to the first person and the intro pricing reflects this. Included in the price are the new pistons, rods, custom crank, installation, custom dyno tune, as well as custom headers built specifically for the stroker application. No additional costs, everything included for the intro price. Compare this to $25,999 for the Dinan stroker motor or $32,800 for the RDsport stroker motor and one can see just how great this offer is. ...Published on 01-08-2011 02:11 AM
Here we have an initial dyno of the Cobb Accessport on the N54. The car used is a 135i 6-speed. The dyno is on 93 octane pushing around 15 psi of boost. No boost graph or AFR is included which we would like but we will take what they give us. The result for 93 octane pump gas only certainly is not bad but some, including BMS, are expressing concerns about the boost being pushed. This tune compares favorably with the Giac Stage 1. A new 1/4 mile record for quickest and fastest C63 and overall 63 amg was set at the MIR dragstrip by dodger63. This is an absolutely phenomenal time and an incredible achievement especially when one factors in this was done all on the motor, no nitrous or other power adder. The modifications are as follow: MHP tuning V3 CDT, MHP long tube headers , modified airbox, and drag radials along with race gas. Congratulations once again to MHP and dodger63 for a stunning new record and raising the bar!

The Mercedes C111 was part of a series of experimental cars produced by Mercedes in the 60's and 70's. Mercedes experimented with rotary engines and fiberglass bodies and the styling of the concept was very unique. The owner of GWA tuning in Texas decided the car deserved a modern update and is building his version on a tubular space frame chassis. A 408 hp Mercedes V12 is positioned in a mid-engine layout. The car weighs around 3000 pounds and yes, those are gullwing doors. Wheels are borrowed from the SLS with 19 inch fronts and 20 inch rears. Likely only one of these will be made so put your checkbook down. Plus, wait until you see the final product as these are just renderings. ...Published on 01-06-2011 09:53 AM
HPF has been on a marketing blitz lately releasing tons of quality content. Pay attention tuners, this is how you market. What we have here is a short video with the two widebody M3's but it mostly focuses on the black Stage 4 widebody. Just a little teaser clip that is interesting but it sure could do without the music. ...Published on 01-06-2011 08:19 AM
Yes, this is a small photo of the C-coupe which should be making its official debut shortly. This is from Autobild who has the official pictures already in their position but can not debut them yet as it would violate the time limit imposed by Mercedes for the reveal. This type of stuff happens all the time with manufacturers having agreements with news sources on when they can reveal documents or pictures. That did not stop someone from leaking out a picture from the Autobild magazine set to hit newstands with pictures of the new C. ...Published on 01-05-2011 03:01 PM

The new X3 poses a very interesting entry into the SUV landscape. Packing a 3.0 liter turbo 6 cylinder with 300 hp, it really is quite fast for an SUV. Being over 1000 pounds lighter than X5 or X6 certainly does not hurt. In stock form the SUV is running times comparable to the US E36 M3. It is not marketed as such, but due to the low curb weight and turbo powerplant the X3 makes for an interesting entry into the performance SUV realm. Think about what it could do with a V8.
