We are going to see all the 2013 DTM cars make their debut shortly and here is Audi's effort for the upcoming season. The 2013 Audi RS5 DTM will make its season debut at the Hockenheim track on May 5th. Audi will field 8 cars again. So what are the differences from the 2012 car? Well, the specifications for the cars were "frozen" so to speak at the conclusion of the 2012 season so the 2013 cars will not differ all that much. ...Published on 03-06-2013 11:15 PM
Here is an interesting comparison between similarly matched cars both with supercharger kits pushing similar boost. The M3 is a DCT car with the ESS-VT2 625 kit. It's hard to say what pulley or power it is putting down as ESS has shown numbers all over the place swapping pulleys and tunes as it suits them for marketing purposes but the "quoted" specs are 7.0 psi of boost from a Vortech V3si blower good for roughly 530 whp on pump gas with the stock exhaust. This vehicle was running race gas with a modified exhaust so its output is likely a bit higher. ...Published on 03-06-2013 10:21 PM
Here it is, the MKVII Golf in all its glory making its official debut at the Geneva Auto Show. The car looks absolutely great as the MKVII Golf does but especially so in GTI trim. So what are the improvements? How about a lower curb weight at 2978 pounds. Impressive to be under 3000 pounds these days. The turbo 2.0 liter motor gets 220 horsepower standard and an optional 230 horsepower performance pack but this is likely only for Europe. ...Published on 03-06-2013 10:51 AM
More and more videos coming from the No Fly Zone event and this one is particularly telling. The F10 M5 has a twin turbocharged V8 and a dual clutch transmission. The C63 AMG in comparison has a 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 with an automatic transmission. Considering the F10 M5 has a large horsepower advantage of almost 100 wheel horsepower due to being underrated and putting down in 5XX wheel horsepower range stock a stock C63 AMG should be easy work for it especially in a half mile race. ...Published on 03-06-2013 10:21 AM
Car Magazine makes pretty bold claims and they do so to get attention and sell magazines. They tend to go more the National Enquirer route especially with things like these renderings. They did this before when the E92 M3 was coming out saying their pictures were 100% accurate but they were not 100% accurate. They were close enough though and based on BMW's recent styling language and concepts the real deal should not be far from this. ...Published on 03-06-2013 08:51 AM
So good the good news the USA is getting another A3 variant. The bad news is it is not the one enthusiasts want. Say hello to the 2013 Audi 8V generation A3 E-Tron. The car has a 1.4 liter TFSI turbo inline-4 which produces 150 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. When combined with the electric motor the result is 204 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This is all sent through a dual clutch transmission to the front wheels. ...Published on 03-05-2013 05:30 PM
Great interview here done by EVO Magazine with the head of the Porsche GT car development Andreas Preuninger. The new PDK transmission going into the 991 GT3 dominates the discussion. It is interesting to see just how much thought Porsche put into whether or not to give the GT3 the 7-speed PDK transmission for a car that is supposed to offer the most pure Porsche 911 driving experience. The debate raged for a year on whether or not to do it. ...Published on 03-05-2013 02:43 PM
Here is the race many of you have been waiting for from the No Fly Zone event. A modified AMG M156 versus AMG M157 battle. Both cars are Weistec tuned with the C63 Black Series (camera car) having a Weistec Stage III package with the 3.0 liter blower at 11 psi putting down approximately ~650 wheel horsepower with a pump tune but running race gas. The W212 E63 AMG has the Weistec M157 turbo upgrade package which puts down roughly ~730 wheel horsepower on race gas. ...Published on 03-05-2013 08:01 AM
Fifth gear recently tested the new Audi S8 and happened to put the sporty new Audi luxury cruiser against the R8 4.2 V8 in a drag race. Note, this R8 is the pre-facelift model that does not have the new dual clutch transmission although it seems that would not matter either way. So how does the S8 do? It quite simply trounces the R8 from a stop. Not all too surprising considering the big sedan has hit 11's in the 1/4 mile stock and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. ...Published on 03-05-2013 07:24 AM
Hey guys, We've been working on the JB4 for the N20 motor (Stage2) for the last few weeks and have made some solid progress. Enough so that we finally decided to hit the dyno up to quantify things a bit. The results were very impressive. For JB4 development we've removed the ER downpipe so its now fully stock right down to the factory paper air filter. Only mod is the JB4 and a 50% mixture of E85 fuel and 91 octane (e.g. approx E40 fuel). ...Published on 03-04-2013 11:51 PM
This is a pretty telling video. Warning, it gets ugly for the M5. So if you are an F10 M5 owner perhaps you should just go on M5board instead and have Gustav pat you on your back and tell you that you have the fastest sedan in the world and that everything will be fine. It's amazing how lopsided this race is considering the F10 M5 dynos in the low 500 wheel horsepower range stock but that does not help mask its simply big fat 4300+ pound butt. ...Published on 03-04-2013 10:32 PM
And more and more - No Fly Zone - videos continue to get put up including awesome comparisons such as this one here. The camera car in the video being a new W204 C63 AMG Black Series belonging to a BenzBoost member which has a Stage III 3.0 liter Weistec supercharger system. The blower was pushing 11 psi of boost on a 91 octane pump tune but the car was running race gas. The E92 M3 has an ESS VT2-625 kit and is a DCT car likely also running race gas as race gas jugs are seen in photos around the car. ...Published on 03-04-2013 07:20 PM
E-Tron, G-Tron, Audi just keeps coming up with the funky names for its alternative fuel vehicles. This latest vehicle is the A3 G-Tron which uses something Audi calls e-gas. What is e-gas? Well, Audi uses an electrical current to split water into its components (hydrogen and oxygen). This is what is done to produce fuel for hydrogen fuel cell cars but Audi mixes in carbon dioxide to create a sort of synthetic methane. This results in synthetic compressed natural gas. ...Published on 03-04-2013 04:00 PM
Here it is at last, the king of the naturally aspirated race bred 911 crop. Yes, the brand spanking new 2014 991 GT3. As previously reported the PDK and 9000 RPM info was on the money. Horsepower is slightly more than expected out of the new 3.8 liter motor with 475 horsepower. Porsche claims with the PDK transmission and new found power compared to the 997.2 GT3 which also had a 3.8 liter flat-6 but with 435 horses that the new 991 GT3 is an incredible 6/10's quicker 0-60. ...Published on 03-04-2013 04:20 AM
Yet another great video from the No Fly Zone event (expect a whole lot of race videos to be posted throughout this week). Strong Mustang here running a Paxton 2200SL supercharger through the stock exhaust system with a 6-speed manual transmission. This Mustang is said to be putting down in the ~600 wheel horsepower range and also was able to dispatch a Weistec Stage II supercharged W204 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. ...Published on 03-04-2013 02:55 AM
A drag race between these two rear wheel drive cars in the wet just seems kind of dumb as well as dangerous. The both really need a dry launch to show what they are capable of. Regardless, the weather is what it is and it's nice to see the new F13 M6 in action against a rare car like the 997 GT3 RS 4.0. The Porsche is able to eek out a slight lead despite feathering the throttle (likely thanks to its significant weight advantage of almost 1000 pounds). ...Published on 03-04-2013 01:16 AM
Interesting race here from the No Fly Zone event this past weekend. The Mustang is a 2013 model with the 5.0 V8 and is a 6-speed. It has the stock exhaust and features a Paxton 2200SL supercharger. The owner of the Mustang says he was likely close to the 600 wheel horsepower mark. Compare this to the Weistec Stage II which puts out 538 wheel horsepower on 91 octane from a 2.3 liter twin screw blower and the result makes sense. ...Published on 03-04-2013 12:12 AM
Here it is, the new Golf MKVII wagon which was leaked out early on the internet before its official debut at the Geneva auto show this week. These days cars tend to simply leak out early before the automaker shows them at an auto show and once the picture shit the internet, well, it's game over. Only photos are available with no technical specs but the wagon definitely looks good. Will VW bring it to the USA? That's anyone's guess. ...Published on 03-03-2013 11:34 PM
Two simply awesome race videos here from the past weekend at the No Fly Zone event. The 335i in the video is a 6-speed manual with Rob Beck turbos and a Burger Motorsports Juice Box 4 G5 ISO. It also has full bolt ons including downpipes, FMIC, and presumably meth injection. The 458 Italia appears to be stock. What makes this race impressive is how the 335 does being a 6-speed manual going against the quick shifting dual clutch transmission in the 458. ...Published on 03-03-2013 10:41 PM
After seeing the excellent 2013 Audi R8 V10 plus dyno pull video here is another vehicle of this model this time in real world action. MotorSport Magazine France was able to do a launch control test all the way up to 300 km/h (186 miles per hour). The car flat out flies to 160 km/h or 100 miles per hour and then charges quickly and steadily to 300 km/h. It does slow a bit past the 260 km/h range but that is to be expected. ...
