    • BMW to build an X2 with an expected arrival date in 2016

An X2 that will slot in below the X3 as an entry level 'SAV' is on the way according to AutoExpress. What is the X2 exactly? Well, it is a reskinned 2-Series Active Tourer which itself is just a reskinned Mini. Yes, the Mini platform will be used for the X2 which means the X2 will be front wheel drive with an all wheel drive option. The X2 is not being built with off road capability or traditional SUV aspects in mind.

The X2 is just another way to take a platform and squeeze another model out of it which is BMW's strategy these days. It will likely sell quite well which is why it got the green light and may get a 3-door variant.

As far as powertrain choices expect the 1.5 liter turbo three-cylinder motor already in use to find its way under the hood along with four-cylinder variants. It will likely mirror the 2-Series Active Tourer powertrain.
