• Volkswagen creates a Touareg with rubber tracks instead of tires - VW Snowareg

Those who live in winter climates know that in heavy snow or harsh winter conditions getting traction with tires certainly can be a big problem. Volkswagen decided to do an interesting take on a vehicle to tackle the winter elements with their Snowareg based on the Touareg of course. VW replaced the tires with a rubber track based system purchased from a company based in Minnesota named Mattracks.

Mattracks offers track conversions for vehicles and the end result is a car better able to tackle the elements. For those who live in areas that may deal with particularly harsh ice, snow, rain, etc., the Mattrack solution sure is interesting. The tracks are also claimed to work on pavement but rolling resistance has to be increased and fuel economy, handling, acceleration, and top speed all likely go way, way down. This definitely looks cool though.
