      Last month Porsche registered the 919 name in Germany. So what could this name possible mean and for what car? Chances are it will be the name of what was reported to be a Porsche 961. That is, a new mid-engine sports car that would use the 4.6 liter V8 from the 918 Spyder with about 580 horsepower. This car would be placed above the 911 in the lineup allowing Porsche to move past their rear engine platform and also sit below the range topping 918 Spyder.

      This is going to be a very exciting sports car from Porsche that will likely take on rivals from Ferrari, McLaren, and Lamborghini. That also likely means pricing in the $250-$300k range. It also means Porsche is moving past the old but refined 911 rear engine platform. Definitely a step forward and it bodes well for the Cayman continuing to evolve as well.

        Kind of cool, but a new naming scheme would be welcomed.

        I would never pay that much for a Porsche. Just too commonplace, IMO. At those prices id look into Lamborghini or McLaren.

        I get what you mean about Porsche 911 compared to a Ferrari or Lambo, but how many Carrera GT's have you seen in the wild? Provided it's still built to Porsche standards, the maintenance and durability on this 919 would be considerably better than that of the other exotics with which it would compete.

        This is not going to be a common place Porsche and Porsche is premium as is.

        If it has that motor in a mid-engine chassis... it will be the next best thing to a Carrera GT.
