• German Magazine Auto Zeitung compares the new F13 M6 to the Jaguar XKR-S - Chooses the M6

The new M6 and the Jaguar XKR-S are definitely in a similar segment making for a good comparison between the two GT's. Both are sporty coupes offerings rear seats although neither car truly offers comfortable seating for four adults. Regardless, on paper the specs are fairly similar both featuring direct injected V8's with forced induction that route the power to the rear wheels. The difference being the BMW offers a twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 with 560 horsepower and the Jaguar a supercharged 5.0 liter V8 with 550 horsepower.

Even pricing between the two is similar as tested in this comparison with the BMW M6 coming in at 123,600 Euros and the Jaguar at 129,900 Euros. Keep in mind this is European pricing which differs quite a bit from that in the United States.

So what about the performance? Well, the M6 has the edge acceleration wise. 0-160 km/h (or 0-100 mph) is recorded in 8.2 seconds. This same takes 8.8 seconds in the Jaguar, still very fast but slower than the M6. 0-200 km/h (124 mph) takes 11.9 seconds in the M6 and 13.5 seconds in the Jaguar. Edge, M6.

What about handling? Well the weights of the cars are actually pretty close to one another. The M6 tested at 4184 pounds and the Jaguar XKR-S at 4032 pounds. The Jaguar is lighter by just over 100 pounds but neither is a lightweight, both over 4000 pounds. Even with the increased weight the M6 manages a higher slalom speed at 69.3 km/h versus 68.0 km/h for the XKR-S. The roadcourse also goes to the M6 with a laptime of 1:38.4 versus 1:40.9 for the XKR-S which is a pretty significant difference of two and a half seconds.

The BMW takes the comparison fairly easily and outperforms the XKR-S everywhere even including emissions and fuel economy. The new M cars may not feel the same but they still perform at a high level.

No contest for me, M6 all day.

If they did the same comparison against the Aston Martin on the other hand...

Jag wins in the looks department. Lovin the 'pull-me-over blue'!

Considering the minimal weight difference (with the Jag having the edge), it is very impressive how much quicker the M is 0-120 mph (over a second) or even 0-100 mph- that's a powerhouse of an engine. Considering they have roughly the same numbers - both in torque, and horsepower - this shows that numbers on paper don't always add up to real world performance. Good article, need to work on my German though. Click here to enlarge

The turbo V8 will be stronger up top as it's more powerful (despite what is says on paper) plus the DCT trans.

All that matters is the numbers, and those translate to any language...

Good point - especially considering that's all I care about. I should rephrase - the numbers on "this" paper... I actually wrote Car & Driver and Road & Track a letter (email) asking why they don't calculate total power under the curve. They never responded. Click here to enlarge

Probably because they don't have access to the same kind of dyno machines.

        No.

And really the old Jag V8 was their own design.
